Giant Censored Robots
[H] Mal'Ganis
----------------------------------------
GCR has been on Mal'Ganis since its conception before the retail release World of Warcraft. GCR is one of oldest guilds on the top PVP-realm in the game. The Giant Communist Robot's were formed by a group of players from the Shacknews website. GCR had a sister-guild on Stormreaver for the Alliance-loving Shackers called Giant Capitalist Robots. Being the weak-willed beings they are the Capitalist Robots died out. GCR has had a bumpy history. Being Communist is bad in the game creator's eyes and the Giant Communist Robots were disbanded. The hell that followed is the stuff of legends. Large raid groups were formed to bring the fight to the alliance for the humiliation experienced by our Red Robotic friends. GCR, Goon Squad and a large contingent of Horde forces succeeding in bring down the WORLD. GCR reformed a few times, eventually settling into the censored state you see today.

GCR has expanded beyond its Shacknews roots and now hosts a large and diverse player community. GCR hosts a hardcore raiding group that maintains a casual atmosphere. That may seem like a oxymoron to a lot of people, but GCR has met a lot of success in the past. Being one of the top PVE guilds during The Burning Crusade expansion and a Top 3 guild during the initial month of the Sunwell raid instance. The Wrath of the Lich King changed the scene and GCR is looking to make a resurgence in PVE progression. GCR has faced difficulty in its past, but has always moved forward. Now, too, is the time for the Robots to spread Communist propaganda to all the denizens of the World of Warcraft.

GCR is a mature guild. Not always in the way we act, but always in the way we play. Guild chat can be R-rated at times, if this is a concern for you it is best that you look elsewhere. Because GCR has a diverse community any potential member should be prepared with a thick skin. A sense of humor is required of all of our members and the ability to not take things personally. The way that we have fun isn't always the same, but it is common sense that you act courteously and respectfully towards everyone.

Being a member of GCR has its perks and its requirements. The main goal of the guild is to create an environment where players of all types can come together to fulfill whatever in-game objectives they pursue. We aim to help players acquire achievements both big and small. World of Warcraft is a social game so we encourage members to reach out to one another for groups, but to practice patience if one doesn't materialize on the spot. The bottom line is treat your guild mates with respect, although their character may be virtual there is a real person on the other side of the screen.

We take the reputation of GCR very seriously and hope that our members do too. We ask that people keep in mind that they're representing the guild as a whole when they're wearing the GCR tag. If any malicious activity is attributed to any of our members we'll investigate the issue. If the report is reliable demotion or even removal may be necessary. ALL members are held to the same standard.

Malicious Activities include (but are not limited to):
  • Verbal harassment of another player
  • Ninja-looting

GCR has developed several classifications to facilitate the management of the guild. They are as follows:

Classifications
  • King Arthur --- Guild Master
  • Duke --- Guild Officer
  • Knight --- Raider
  • Squire --- Raid Trial
  • Yeoman --- Full-fledged Guild Member
  • Peasant --- Social Trial Member
  • Iron Maiden --- Penalty Box

Social and Raid Trials
There are two paths to joining the Giant Censored Robots.

The first path is the Peasant (Social Trial).

Any Comrade can get a guild invite for a friend or family member by asking an officer. The invited player will assume the Socialite rank and begin the social trial. Social trials last roughly 3 weeks from invite date at which point you present three in-guild references (not including the member that requested the guild invite) to vouch for the social trial. The purpose of the references is to encourage trials to engage the GCR community. If the three references are favorable the social trial will be promoted to Comrade.

The second path to guild membership is the Squire (Raid Trial).

Anyone interested in a Raid Trial must submit a written application. After reviewing a written application an Officer can schedule and conduct a vent interview if they deem the applicant consistent with the guild's needs. Officers also reserve the right to request that the applicant attend a 5-player dungeon or 10-player raid. If the applicant passes both phases they will be invited to the guild and will assume the Raid Trial rank. Raid trials are expected to maintain near perfect availability during their trial period. Raid trials are evaluated both in and out of raids. After a period of roughly 8 raids the trial will be evaluated by all three Role Officers (or backups when necessary) and will participate in an trial end interview. We will also question guild and raid members about your trial. The raid trial will be promoted to Squire if the trial period was successful. If the trial period was not favorable the trial will have the choice to present three in-guild references and petition for social membership or the trial can be removed.

Both paths to membership are held to the same standards. They must conduct themselves with courtesy and respect to other members. They must involve themselves in the guild community. Whether you're here to raid or here for a friend you're a part of a larger community.

Real Lifeā„¢ issues are outside the scope of the Guild policy. The only time these issues will be addressed is if they contribute to public guild drama and are disruptive to the guild.

PS- Play your characters at least once per month or they may be idle purged --- Thanks, Your GM xoxo.

The changes to the dynamics of raiding requires serious progression guilds to enact stricter standards for members wishing to join a 25-Player raiding environment. GCR is a serious PVE-progression guild and as such we hold the players wishing to raid to high standards. Raiding isn't a right of a member, its an earned privilege. Our raiders spend more time playing WoW than many spend practicing sports or studying (!). They want to succeed and have the skill and put forth the effort required to make it happen. We're always on the lookout for individuals that take raiding as seriously as we do. That isn't to say that raiding shouldn't be fun. The ultimate goal is to match success with fun.

If you're reading this to yourself thinking it sounds too serious for you, just take a minute and think about hobbyists out there that spend hours of their time... building models. We're not making fun of model builders. The point of the matter is, when you invest a serious amount of your time into something that something becomes a serious investment (haha).

"No way man, its just a game." That is fine too, there is room for all types of players in GCR. Fortunately Blizzard implemented 10-Player versions of all raid instances. Everyone has the opportunity to see the raid content should they choose to participate.

To ensure that a player knows what they're getting into GCR will ask for a written application as an initial round of raid recruitment. If your application is accepted, an officer will contact you for a Ventrilo Interview. Its important to try and determine if you're not only right for us, but if we're right for you.

Raiding Standards
The baseline requirements for anyone desiring to raid are as follows:
  • Reliability
    • Every raider is expected to keep the Officers updated on potential conflicts between raiding and real life. We do not expect you to be at every raid. We understand that real life has its priorities and encourage you to find a balance between the two. While its great to have someone 100%; we want to prevent possible burnout.
    • You're expected to let the Officers know your schedule. We will then expect you to maintain availability according to that schedule.
    • If your attendance becomes a detriment to the raid we reserve the right to recruit to fill your role.
    • If you fail to maintain availability you may lose your raiding rights.
    • You don't have to have 100% attendance, but you must be 100% reliable.
  • Gear
    • Full epic gear of an ilevel at least equal to the max available from the previous tier.
    • Must be fully enchanted and gemmed with the best available materials.
  • Consumables
    • At least one stack of food (x20) that provides a proper buff for your role(s). Two stacks are recommended.
    • Enough flasks/elixirs to get you through the entire duration of the raid time. (2 flasks or 10 potions will be provided by the guild for Squire and above. You may only withdraw during scheduled raid days and must withdraw them before the raid.)
  • Role appropriate PVE-specifications
    • Anyone showing up to a raid with a PVP-specification will be asked to reallocate their talent points.
      • Any player on the roster that has an improper specification may be considered late at raid start.
      • Exemptions may be made on farm content.
      • Guild funded re-specifications may be possible if the player received a late invitation.
      • Appropriate specifications are determined by the Role Officer.
    • Re-specifications may be requested by the Raid Leader
      • These will always be guild funded.
  • Knowledge
    • Players on the roster are expected to have pre-fight knowledge of the expected encounters.
      • Exemptions are made for players receiving late invitations.
  • Evaluation
    • You agree to public evaluations of your performance.
    • You agree to not take the evaluations personally.
  • Professions
    • You must have at least one justifiably beneficial profession according to your role.
    • You must have max-level First Aid.
  • Hardware
    • Your hardware and connection must be reliable enough to not impede your performance.
    • You may be replaced if you're causing raid disruptions.
    • Consistent hardware problems may be grounds for cessation of raiding rights.
  • Reputations
    • You're expected to have the proper reputation level with factions that are beneficial to your role(s).
  • Modifications
    • You're required to run a boss modification and a threat display modification.
    • You're required to run any modifications listed by your Role Officer.

Trial Expectations
The purpose of the trial is to test you in multiple areas. Skill and performance are two large factors in determining whether or not a trial passes, but they're not the only important aspects of a raider.

Trials will be evaluated in many areas including (but not limited to):
  • Reliability
    • Attendance
    • Performance
  • Attitude towards:
    • the content.
    • other raiders.
    • other guild members.
  • Ability
    • Survivability
    • Role-related (DPS, healing, tanking etc.)
    • to play multiple roles.
  • Adherence to raiding regulations.

Hazing
Trials are expected to meet the requirements listed for a Squire, but they're also asked to perform the typical menial tasks required of raiders. Class permitting of course.

Some examples of this are:
Trial Mages will be the one to summon tables or open portals. Trial rogues will be the ones to use appropriate poisons, or perform "kick-duty." Trial Warlocks may be required to perform summons or create healthstones. The list continues as appropriate for each specific class.

You will be evaluated on your sportsmanship. We require that every raider be a good sport.

Attendance
Trials have a stricter attendance policy than typical raiders. Failure to adhere to the attendance policy can be grounds for a failed trial.

Knight Requirements
To maintain the Squire rank you must adhere to all of the standard requirements. The Officers will evaluate your performance based upon your role and will update your evaluation thread accordingly.

Evaluation points may include (but are not limited to):
  • Your understanding and ability to follow instruction.
  • Your survivability and awareness.
  • Your damage and/or healing relative to others in your class.

We expect consistently good performance. However that does not mean we do not expect some people to make mistakes. However, if mistakes happen more often than not we will speak with you about your performance. If improvement isn't made it may result in a cessation of raiding rights.

We want everyone to shoot for the "next level." Do not get complacent about your performance. Continuously try to find new and better ways to play and we will take note.

Procedures
Progression
Progression after The Burning Crusade has changed. Blizzard has included methods by which each guild can select the difficulty of the encounter faced. As a result we believe that progression continues until all achievements are attained.

Initially the focus of a new instance will be to conquer each of the encounters. After which point we will then proceed to conquer the Achievements. Achievements are a part of the game and will be handled just like any new encounter.

Achievement goals will be planned ahead of time and listed as an objective for the raid. Attempts to attain the achievement will be made as long as the Raid Leader deems necessary.

Schedule
Our current raid schedule is:
Monday - 8:00 - 11:00 cst
Tuesday - 8:00 - 11:00 cst
Wednesday - 8:00 - 11:00 cst
Thursday - 8:00 - 11:00 cst

Depending on how progression is going we will sometimes go slightly latter on a given raid night but typically no latter than 11:30 cst.

Invites
Invites for a raid will go out 30 minutes before the listed start time unless otherwise specified by the Raid Leader. Raiders will be counted as late if they're not in vent or in the raid and responsive 15 minutes before raid start. You may be replaced during a raid if you're under-performing.

Bench
Any successful raid requires more active involvement than just the 25 raiders in any given raid. We will select any number of players, based upon the sign-ups, to serve as possible backups. We will make the desired backups known. These backups will be expected to show up just as any other raider on the roster.

We require the raiders on the bench to be in Ventrilo 15 minutes before the raid and at all times during the raid. One officer will be designated to randomly contact the bench players to ensure they maintain their availability. It is not required that you stay on your main character. However you must communicate with the Officer and let them know which character you're playing.

Bench raiders that maintain their availability during the raid will earn the standard amount of DKP. Bench players that fail to maintain availability may forfeit their opportunity to earn bench DKP in the future.

The Raid Leader reserves the right to release a bench player if they feel they will not be needed for the night. The bench isn't a requirement, but a possible tool for the Raid Leader if the need should arise.

Loot & DKP
Raid Trials will be unable to bid on items until their trial period is over. If the Trial resulted from an in-guild applicant they will be able to bid during their trial period.

Looting Procedure
When a boss is killed everyone is to wait patiently for an officer to loot the mob. All loot will be passed on. An officer will then announce in a raid warning and on vent the item for which they will be taking tells. It is the player's responsibility to make sure they know to whom to send a tell. If you go away from your keyboard after the boss is dead and miss the announcement and tells have closed you will have missed your shot. Officers will give proper warning before tells are closed. No tells will be accepted after tells have closed. If no tells are received the officer may re-announce the item. If there is still no interest and the item is a potential off-specification item the officer will then take tells for off-spec.

If tier tokens drop off of a boss the tier tokens will be looted first.

Off-specification
In the event that there is no main-specification interest in a specific item it will be available for /roll to classes that can play multiple roles. Priority on such items will go to Knight that play that role for the raid regularly. However, agreeing to loot with such priority also confirms that you're willing to re-spec whenever is required by the raid. Trials are allowed to /roll for off-specification loot.

Tier tokens may only go for off-specification to a character that has already purchased that token.

Loot Priorities
The DPS figure on an item is a valuable stat to physical damage classes. Weapons will be looted with these priorities in mind:
Melee DPS weapons are Melee DPS priority.
Ranged DPS weapons are Ranged DPS priority.

The homogenization of +spell damage and +healing into +spell power has created a gray area for much of the caster and healing loot. The following priorities will be observed:
+hit spell power gear will be Caster DPS priority.
+mp5 (only) spell power gear will be Healing priority.

Bidding
When you send a tell for loot you will be sending the proper officer a tell with your bid. The minimum amount you may bid is 1 dkp. The amount you pay for the item is determined by the second highest bid value + 1 dkp.

ie. You bid 4 dkp on a item. Someone else bids 2 dkp. 2 dkp is the second highest bid, you spend 3 dkp.

If the bids received are equal the players involved will be asked to re-bid. This process will continue until one outbids the other. If both players have an equal amount of dkp they will be asked to /roll.

DKP does not accumulate during raids. The dkp value you have at the beginning of the raid will be the value you can use to bid. If you win an item that value will be subtracted from your pool. This means that you'd have your starting value minus the amount you spent to spend on further items that raid. The DKP earned for a raid isn't awarded until after the raid has finished.

If a boss drops more than one item in which you're interested you may bid on all items. However, it is the players responsibility to ensure that the sum of their bids is less than or equal to the amount of DKP in their pool.

Officers may not take tells on items in which they are interested, or tier tokens for their class.

Dragon Kill Points
DKP is accumulated at an average rate of 1 dkp per hour. You will earn 4 dkp for a standard raid session. There will be no fractions of a point. If you leave a raid early you may forfeit your DKP for that hour.

The minimum amount of DKP a raid can earn is 1. If invites are performed but the raid is incapable of proceeding all those on-time and in attendance or on the bench will be awarded 1 dkp.

The raid will receive 4 dkp if the raid ends early because all of the raid objectives have been met and the raid was expected to last the full duration.

DKP bonuses may be awarded at the discretion of the Raid Leader.

Knight will be awarded 1 additional dkp per raid. This DKP bonus will be forfeit if the Knight doesn't maintain availability for the duration of the raid.

DKP Caps
Serf/Yeoman/Squire: 100 dkp
Knight: 101 dkp

If a Knight is demoted to Squire and at cap they will lose the dkp they've accumulated above the standard cap.

DKP Penalties
Late: -1 dkp
AFK: -1 dkp
  • You'll be penalized if your AFK causes a raid disruption.
  • Notify the raid and an Officer to avoid possible penalties.
MIA: -5 dkp

The Raid Leader reserves the right to enact any penalty he or she deems necessary and prudent.

Demotions
If a raider is unable to adhere to the guidelines listed they may be demoted one rank. Knight is demoted to Squire. Squire raiders are demoted to Comrade and they lose their raiding rights. You must petition an officer to renew your raiding privilege.

Your Role Officer may demote you from Knight at any time. To be demoted from Squire it requires the consent of all three Role Officers.

Agreement
Raiding with GCR means that you agree to all the regulations listed. Failure to do so may result in the cessation of your raiding privileges.

Keep in mind, raiding is supposed to be fun. Our ultimate aim is to merge fun and success. The guidelines are to help us make raiding as consistent and organized as possible.

Guild Channels
I would like to re-institute the class (role) channels we used to utilize int he past. Along with any change it takes time for something to catch on. So while these channels may be empty at first, if you give it time I'm sure it will catch on.

The Role channels are for asking general class/role information, assigning duties in raids, etc. These channels are open to everyone and I encourage players to participate.

/gcrstab --- melee/tank channel
/gcrpewpew --- ranged channel
/gcrheal --- healer channel
